The Process of Measuring. Daniela Dostálková
św. Tomasza 26, Krakow
Mon.-Sat. 11:30–18:00
No quote could be more accurate in appreciating Daniela Dostálková’s Process of Measuring, an ongoing photographic work which embraces the world of modern psychology, shown through the perspective of its instrumental apparatuses, scientific methodology and anticipated results.
Indeed, Daniela Dostálková, through her uncanny images of the uttermost precision, shows how modern psychology has had the ambition to describe, analyse and measure the human psyche. In her photographs, all seems organised, rational and clear. And yet a hint of dementia seems to lurk behind Dostálková’s models and instruments; this is precisely what makes her work fascinating and equivocal. As Goya would write in 1797, when modern psychology was being discovered: “the sleep of reason produces monsters”.
