ATTENTION! ANNOUNCING THE RESULTS OF THE GRIFFIN ART SPACE BEST PORTFOLIO COMPETITION
His project, entitled “SP9DGO”, is the story of an adventure with amateur radio in the 1970s, told through objects belonging to friends of the author, who went by the pseudonym “SP9DGO” in the world of shortwave communication. On another level, it is also a tale of dreams of travelling to faraway countries beyond the Iron Curtain. And it is all presented in a modern way as a series of boards displaying postcards with pictures taken by the people with whom contact was made as well as photos of the components used for constructing shortwave radios.
Over 30 years after first becoming fascinated with photography, Bogusław Madej decided to return to his hobby, and in 2012 he began studying at the Academy of Photography, where he completed the SP9DGO project under the watchful eye of Michał Łuczak. During the Portfolio Review at Krakow Photomonth 2014, it was this project that caught the attention of the international team of experts, with its original subject handled in a modern, light and interesting way. In visual terms, the project’s local topic fits in with the latest trends in visual arts and is ideal for publication in the form of a limited edition aimed at collectors.
It is also significant that the author of the prize-winning collection, a well-conceived and terrifically executed project, made his debut at the age of 52. He may have set an example for those who think that it is too late to give photography and art a go.
The work of Bogusław Madej and the other participants of the Portfolio Review is displayed as a multimedia projection at Lubicz Office Centre (ul. Lubicz 23) right up till the end of the festival. Come and see for yourself!
