The Nuremberg House presents screening

Sophie Calle was born in Paris in 1953. She is a conceptual artist associated with photography, installation and performance art. As her father was a collector of pop art, from an early age art was part of her life.

After completing her studies, Calle embarked on a seven-year journey through Europe. It was this trip that inspired her interest in photography. In 1979 she returned to Paris, where she continued her work.

Calle’s first projects tackled the subject of tracking and being tracked. This was meant to be a way of finding oneself in an alienated city. In her work she alludes to the discourse of creating identity, often manipulating situations and embodied in various forms. Her main subjects are interpersonal relations, discovering the limits of cognition and intimacy. Her works have been exhibited at the Tate Gallery, Pompidou Centre and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
